# Import CAD Models

AprtusVR uses [**Open Asset Import Library (assimp)**](https://github.com/assimp/assimp) to import files. You can read about the supported file formats here: <https://github.com/assimp/assimp> .

If your CAD models file format is not supperted then you can read about **converting CAD models** in [this](/vr/tutorials/convert-cad-models.md) tutorial.

The converison to polygon mesh usually creates lots of polygons. If you want to **create a low-poly mesh** read [this](/vr/tutorials/create-low-poly-cad-models.md) tutorial.

After creating your low-poly mesh [this](/vr/tutorials/create-photorealistic-cad-models.md) tutorial will show you how to convert it to a **photorealistic gLTF file**.

See [this ](/vr/tutorials/introduction-how-to-visualize-cad-models.md)introduction page for step-by-step description how to use the VR application made by the libraries of ApertusVR.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://apertus.gitbook.io/vr/tutorials/import-cad-models.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
